Philanthropy

Philanthropy is a large part of being a member of any Greek organization, and Kappa Alpha Theta is no exception. We take pride in our chapter’s dedication to our philanthropies as well as individual sisters’ philanthropic efforts throughout the entire year. Kappa Alpha Theta’s national philanthropies are Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Theta Foundation, and the Friendship Fund. Theta chapters across the country involve themselves in these philanthropies to help children who have been abused or neglected, to help Theta give members the best experience possible, and to help sisters in need.

Our chapter is actively involved with the local CASA organization to which we donate every year. In the Fall, we have our signature philanthropy event, the Superheroes for CASA 5K, in which students and people from the community come out and take some laps around the Green. In the past, we have had spring events like Kappa Kickball, and this past year we created a new spring event to benefit CASA called "Mr. and Miss CASAnova." Our chapter has just recently become more actively involved with Theta Foundation and Friendship Fund by participating in small events throughout the year to raise money for these foundations, which have been designed specifically to help Thetas.

Our sisters are not only devoted to our philanthropies, but also to helping other chapters benefit their philanthropies. The other Greek chapters on campus are always hosting philanthropy events throughout the year, and our sisters love competing in them, especially when there’s a chance to win money to donate to our own philanthropies. Participating in these events allows us to help even more people than we already do while forming bonds with other members of the Greek life community.

In addition to other chapters’ philanthropies, our chapter also loves being involved in the University of Delaware’s largest student-run philanthropy, UDance. Our sisters work year round canning and fundraising to help our team raise money for pediatric cancer and the B+ Foundation. All of our efforts culminate with a 12-hour dance marathon in the spring. Since our sorority is such an active organization in UDance, we have the honor of having a B+ Hero, Aryn, who we love spending time with at UDance and throughout the year.

Our chapter is filled with amazing girls who have a true passion for helping others and are able to successfully balance all of our philanthropic efforts while maintaining academic excellence.
